Behind the scenes

Late last week a friend of mine contacted me on Facebook to see if I would be interested in taking part in a photoshoot he had planned for the weekend. It was really a dumb question, it involved photography and it involved something I hadn’t experienced yet, there’s no need to ask me twice. I’ve always said I’m willing to try anything once, twice if I’m not sure about it; sometimes it pays out others it doesn’t but it’s always an experience or a story to tell.

The day was interesting and I learned quite a bit just watching things go on, I didn’t shoot anything as there was one extra person added to the list of photographers and I didn’t:

  • A)want to get in the way of others
  • B)distract the model any more than she already was with trying to pose for three photographers and
  • 3)I was just flat out nervous about it. I had a little bit of equipment intimidation and I’m generally uneasy shooting people as it is, never mind with an entourage of people around me.

I learned a little about lighting, how to angle a scrim to catch different light, picked up a little on flash placement and powers and had a good day out with a friend. He said he’s got another shoot in the planning stages and he’ll let me know about it. I’m going to try and put my big boy pants on this time around and try out a few model shots. It can’t hurt, right?
