It should be known by now that I like trying my hand at different things and sports photography is something I’ve wanted to attempt for a while. The opportunity presented itself when my niece was cheer leading for a local youth football game. These aren’t the greatest of shots but it’s all a learning experience at this point and I know a few things if I go shoot again. I need to remember to check my ISO before I start shooting, some of the shots I lost could have been keepers with a higher ISO allowing me faster shutter speeds and reducing blur from the motion of the players. I need to work on and use panning techniques more to convey the sense of movement instead of strictly freezing action. I also need to do something I tend to do when I’m shooting birds until I can predict where the action is going to happen and that’s shoot with both eyes open. It’s something I don’t think a lot of people do as it can be somewhat disorienting but it let’s me scan a larger area than restricting myself to the viewfinder does.
